QUILTED: STORIES IN PAPER
Practical Art, Phoenix, March 1 - March 31, 2023
This series of works came about from my desire to commit to a long term exploration of one thought. I have a tendency to get restless in art and move from idea to idea, play with one medium and another. While this flitting allows me to be spontaneous and playful, I wanted to invite myself to stay with a thought long enough and see where it takes me. I found myself gravitating towards geometric shapes and forms. A desire for structure that surprised and intrigued me. In this series of works, I decided to stay within a square space and limited color palette for each painting.
Somewhere around Square #25, a cosmic, quilt-like theme began to emerge and took on a life of its own. The art in this show are squares #66 - #91. Each piece spoke to me in a different way and holds meaning to me personally. It explores ideas of the passage of time, our space in this infinite universe, our interconnectedness and the rhythm of our lives.
